Winds of Change?

I'll let Pat provide the more detailed account of the Florida trip. Long story short, it was great...except for the game. We hit the Keys, saw Miami and the beaches, partied like rock stars at Disney World and even handled some live gators in the Everglades. The food, drinks and scenery were great. The game was, well, pathetic. I've stated this to others, but we will win games this year in spite of our coaching. This wasn't one of those games. The lack of execution on both sides of the ball was mindnumbing. Our defense kept giving up big plays on 3rd down and our offense couldn't buy consistent first downs. The plays our offense ran were so predictable that even the casual Miami fans knew what was coming. Option to the short side of the field followed by McGee running for his life followed by more bad plays. Our O-line was shredded and since our current team doesn't know what the word "pass" means, it was run for a 2 yard gain followed by a 2 yard loss here. Just plain frustrating. And I don't care how our overpaid head coach spins it, it is still a tough loss. Everyone knew we would be judged by this game and we had no chance of winning it - not down 31 points going into the 4th quarter.

Our players won't really have a chance to prove if we can be better until the Tech game. Our coaches proved, yet again, that they have no real clue how to win a non-conference game on the road. We could beat Baylor & OK State the next two weeks at home, but until we prove that we can win against better teams than what we've been (and Tech has been one over the past few years), then we are still just a work in progress. Too bad Fran has had 4+ years and we are still only mediocre. The dream of a Big XII title is still alive - I just don't know how long. As for the OB, it was a horrible stadium in the middle of the ghetto with plenty of in-your-face thug fans. I wish only ill will and losses for the "U" and hope that we can return the favor next year in Kyle - only with class.

I hope that our players can will us to wins, but I'm afraid our coaches will bumble us into more losses. I think this season is taking on a new mantra, "Welcome to the Terrordome." I'm glad that Disney was great and the beaches were beautiful, otherwise this trip would have gone south fast. Florida is great, the OB sux and our team is at a crossroads. Stay tuned for more...
