As all of you may know, I was unable to make the trip up to Lincoln due to an unforeseen emergency dental procedure that was horrific, in and of itself. That being said, it provided additional time for reflection. I called up fellow injured Ag, tight end Martellus Bennett and we chatted some as the game was on the radio... right.
For those of you who have been reading this blog on a regular basis, you will notice that there was no real write up about the game up in Lubbock against Texas Tech. This was not by accident - it was a statement as to how pathetic we constantly are against our, now, second biggest rival. I don't want to dwell on that game, but like our Miami massacre, it showed how bad we can be. I have been up to Lubbock the last 4 games and none of them have inspired anything more than mutterings about how discombobulated we were. Good thing Pat McAggie didn't make that trip, too. He would have felt worse than he already did.
I believe he was rewarded with a great showing up at Nebraska. The only complaint I have about our game in Lincoln was that other than the 84K fans there, no one saw it. I listened to the rousing radio ramblings of Dave South and his by-gone-era vocal play calling while I recuperated. While a true fan will find any means to stay current with his or her respective team, not being on the television hurts you in so many ways. That being said, we were previously on tv in prime time vs. Tech and that didn't turn out so hot. Maybe we need to keep our tv games on Fox Sports Network, ESPN2 and other lesser networks. Other than our win vs. tu last year, I can't think of another recent prime time tv slot where we won.
Regardless, we earned a win over a struggling Nebraska program. Our coach has yet to beat a truly high-powered conference team in a meaningful game and I hope we can bring it against a solid KU team, but even if we win, the real proving game comes the following week versus OU. We're still in line for a Big 12 title, let's hope it stays that way. And damn it, let's get our fans healthy.
