The Kansas game - well, we blew it. Big Time.
We wasted our best defensive effort of the season with an absolutely ANEMIC offensive performance. With just over 85K fans rocking Kyle in a night game on the Deuce (ESPN2 for those not in the know), it looked like the 12th man would really help us out. We were dead wrong. The first half reminded me of the sport that the rest of the world calls football (and we call soccer). Lot's of plays, little action some errant kicks of the pigskin - which resulted in a 0-0 tie.
And then...the third quarter. Our offense was horribly predictable, which probably explained why we went three and out every time we had the ball. Normally, I would have been leading the crowd in my famous "Beat the Hell Outta Fran" yells by this time. All I could do was stare in astonishment. This quarter was like watching a horrible 5 car accident in excruciatingly slow motion, only I didn't get to see Dennis Fraud-phony Francione wheeled off to an ambulance that never reaches the hospital and makes a delivery at the morgue. Our defense finally began to buckle and KU put some points on the board.
The end of the fourth quarter provided some excitement, but the final end came and we were face to face with a 19-11 loss. Outcoached we were, outclassed we were not. It was great to see KU's larger-than-life head coach, Mark Mangino. I was really hoping that if he was still hungry, he might accidentally swallow our coaching staff, but such is life.
Next up is OU and I will pray for us to keep it close and who knows? Maybe we can find a way to win. One thing is for sure, if we win, it will not be because of superior coaching. Bob Stoops is as good as they come and he will have the Sooners ready to roll. I can only hope that the guys in Maroon & White bring the fight of fights to Norman. We still control our destiny and can possibly run the table to the Big 12 South. Of course, we could also be pulverized, but I hope that's not the case.
As the great Sir Mixx A Lot said, "I'm long and I'm strong and I'm down to get the friction on.."
PS - that last reference doesn't really make much sense, but it is a great line. Here's hoping our O & D lines are great, too.
